Want to Learn to Skate?
Join the Zotec Partners Carmel Ice Skadium coaching staff as they present our
Group Skating Lesson program. We offer group lessons on a 5 week or 6 week series schedule.
Each class is led by one of our professional instructors that will be limited to 12 skaters per instructor. 
Skaters will be tested at the end of the 6 week series for mastery of the maneuvers taught at each
skill level. Skaters enrolled in the 5 week series will receive a certificate of participation. Each skater
enrolled in the 6 week series will receive a certificate upon completion, and with the instructors
recommendation,  progress to the next level.

CARMEL ICE SKADIUM PARTICIPATES IN THE UNITED STATES SKATING BASIC SKILLS PROGRAM. ALL LTS STUDENTS WILL NEED TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL MANDATORY $10 MEMBERSHIP FEE ONCE PER YEAR (Valid July 1—June 30. No pro-rating.) FOR PARTICIPATION IN THIS PROGRAM.

Class Schedule & Teaching Criteria

Tots (Snowplow Sam 1): 3 to 5 years old.
Skills: Sit and stand up on ice, march in place, march walking, march, then glide a short distance, dip in place.
Tots (Snowplow Sam 2): 3 to 5 years old.
Skills: March, then glide a long distance, dip while moving, backward wiggles, forward swizzles, two foot hop, curves.
Tots (Snowplow Sam 3): 3 to 5 years old.
Skills: March and glide, one foot glide (short), backward swizzles, rocking horse, snowplow stop.

Basic 1: 6-12 years
Any child who has never taken lessons begins here.
Skills: Sit on ice and stand up, march forward across the ice, forward two foot glide, dip while moving, rocking horse (forward and backward swizzle action), forward swizzles, backward wiggles, snowplow stop, two foot hop in place.

Basic 2: 6-12 years and passed Basic 1.
Skills: Forward one foot glides-right and left, backward two-foot glides, backward swizzles (6-8 in a row), two foot turn in place, moving snowplow stop, forward slalom.

Basic 3: 6-12 years and passed Basic 2.
Skills: Forward stroking, forward one foot swizzles on a circle, moving forward to backward two foot turns, backward one foot glides right and left, forward slalom, two-foot spin (up to 2 revolutions).
Skills: Moving forward outside three-turn on a circle; R&L, Moving forward inside three-turn on a circle; R&L, combination move, one foot upright spin, waltz jump, mazurka.

Basic 4: 6-12 years and passed Basic 3.
Skills: Forward outside edge on a circle R&L, Forward inside edge on a circle R&L, forward crossovers, forward outside three turn from a T-position R&L, backward ½ swizzle pumps on a circle, backward stroking, backward snowplow stop.

Thursday 4:45—5:15pm
Saturday 12:45—1:15pm

Basic 5: 6-12 years and passed Basic 4.
Skills: Backward outside edge on a circle R&L, backward inside edge on a circle R&L, backward crossovers, one-foot spin, hockey stop, side toe-hop (both directions).

Basic 6: 6-12 years and passed Basic 5.
Skills: Forward inside three-turn from a T-position, moving backward to forward two-foot turn on a circle, T-stop, bunny hop, forward spiral, forward lunge.

Basic 7: 6-12 years and passed Basic 6.
Skills: Forward inside open mohawk from a T-position, backward outside to forward outside transition on a circle, ballet Jump, backward crossovers to a backward outside edge glide; clockwise and counter clockwise, forward inside pivots.
Basic 8: 6-12 years and passed Basic 7.
Basic 7- 8 Combined

Freestyle 1: Skills: Advanced forward stroking, basic forward outside and forward inside consecutive edges, advanced back outside 3-turns, scratch spin, waltz jump from backward crossovers, half flip.
Freestyle 2: Skills: Basic back outside and back inside consecutive edges, forward outside and forward inside spirals on a circle, continuous forward progressive chasse sequence, waltz threes, beginning back spin, waltz jump-side toe hop-waltz jump, toe loop.
Freestyle 3: Skills: Forward and backward crossovers in a figure eight pattern, waltz eight, advanced forward consecutive swing rolls, backward inside 3-turns, back spin with free foot in crossed leg position, salchow, half lutz, waltz jump/toe loop or salchow/toe loop.
Freestyle 4: Skills: Spiral sequence, forward power 3-turns, continuous backward progressive chasse sequence, sit spin, loop jump, waltz jump/loop combination.

Freestyle 5: Skills: Backward outside 3-turn, mohawk into 3 backward crossovers(repeat 3 times), spiral sequence, forward outside slide chasse swing roll sequence, camel spin, forward upright spin to back scratch spin, loop/loop combination, flip jump, waltz jump/falling leaf/toe loop jump sequence.
Freestyle 6: Skills: Alternating back crossovers to back back outside edges, five step mohawk sequence, camel/sit combination, split jump/stag jump, waltz jump/half loop/salchow, lutz jump, axel walk through.

Beginner Adult: 13 years and up.
Skills: Basic 1 thru Basic 3.
Advanced Adult: 13 years and up.
Skills: Basic 4 thru Basic 6)
Saturday 12:15—12:45pm (All levels)

This is the order of progression of our classes. Testing is done anytime during last week of the session. If the instructor feels a student is ready to move on, then the test will be given. Each student will receive a badge for their completed skill level. We would like to suggest the following...

  • Please allow 15 minutes early for check-in and to get skates prior to class start time.
  • Those utilizing rental skates should request one size smaller than skaters shoe size.
  • Dress warmly (jackets, gloves & hats are recommended).
  • Helmets are encouraged, but not required.
  • Parents are not permitted on the ice in the class area

Policies

1. No make up classes are permitted at anytime during the series or semester.
2. Tuition will be pro-rated for classes missed from the beginning of the series/semester through the day the student enrolls. No pro-rating for classes student may miss in the future.
3. The management reserves the right to change the day and/or time of lessons. Management also reserves the right to combine classes.
4. Skaters wishing to transfer to a different class within the current series may do so with the consent of the skating director only, space permitting.
5. No refunds given after the start date of class.
6. A 20% bookkeeping fee may be charged for any cancellation, with the exception of a class canceled by the management for any reason.
7. Refunds may be given under the following conditions:
A) The management must receive written notice of cancellation, stating reason (if medical—letter from attending physician is required)
B) The 20% bookkeeping fee, plus any regularly scheduled classes which have been taught before date cancellation is received (whether attended or not, shall be deducted from the refund.)
C) Cancellation may not be made during the last two (2)weeks of any semester for any reason.

8. Students assume the risks of skating; the student and parent or guardian agree that the Carmel Ice Skadium and/or Arctic Zone Iceplex is not responsible for injury to the student or for loss or damage to any personal property.
