Adult Hockey

The Arctic Zone Iceplex is the proud home of the GreaterIndianapolis Adult Hockey Leagues. We seek to provide a competitive and sportsmanlike environment for our players that is built around fun and camaraderie.The largest of its kind in Central Indiana, the GIAHL has leagues for all skill levels. From our instructional D League meant for beginners to our B League, Tier I which is home to a few former pros. If you are looking for a place to play, we have one for you.The leagues in the GIAHL are split up into Fall, Spring and Summer sessions to allow players an opportunity to play year-round.

Getting Started

1) Acquire the proper equipment
Full padding is required to play in the GIAHL. Shoulder pads are optional, but highly recommended.

2) Register with USA Hockey
All of the GIAHL leagues are USA Hockey sanctioned and require that you register with USAH in order to participate. USAH registration is a yearly fee and can be done at usahockeyregistration.com

3) Choose your league
The GIAHL offers five leagues of varying skill levels to suit any player. Take a look at the league descriptions and find the division that best suits you. If you are unsure of which league you belong in, feel free to contact the Adult Hockey Director, Peter Evans at petere@carmelice.com

4) Sign-up for your chosen league
To register, please go to the adult hockey section of carmeliceskadium.com and follow the instructions to sign up. If registration is closed, please contact the Adult Hockey Director about availability.

B League, Tier I is a full slap shot and non-checking league. It is intended for those looking for a “B” level league that is fast and competitive. B League, Tier I plays on Sunday nights at our Westfield rink, Arctic Zone from September-March and on Tuesdays at the Carmel Ice Skadium from June-August.

B League, Tier II is for those that have played hockey at a younger age up to the high school level or are experienced adult hockey players. It is a competitive league that also heavily focuses on camaraderie. B League, Tier II plays on Thursday nights, is non-checking and full slap shot.

  • Intended for those looking for a “B” level league that is a competitive league that also heavily focuses on camaraderie

C League, Tier I is our higher level C League which plays on Monday nights at the Carmel Ice Skadium. It is intended for those in our mid-level leagues looking for another night to skate and those looking to transition from C League, Tier II to the higher leagues. C League, Tier I is a no slap shot, non-checking league.

League Details

  • Four team league
  • Monday nights at Carmel Ice Skadium
  • No slap shot, Change on the fly, and Non-checking league
  • This is considered our high level C league. It is intended for those in our mid-level league looking for another night to skate and those looking to transition from C Tier 2 to a higher league.
  • All players must register online
  • USA Hockey rules govern the league with the above house-rule exceptions
  • No player under the age of eighteen
  • All players must register with USA Hockey
  • 1 Hour 30 Minute game slots (Five minute warm-up, 3 – 25 minute run time periods)

C League, Tier II is meant for less experienced adult hockey players. It is intended for those that have experience playing as a child or are starting to pick the game up again after an extended time off. Games are on Sunday nights and is a non-checking, no slap shot league.

League Details

  • Six to ten team Drafted League
  • Sunday nights at Carmel Ice Skadium
  • No slap shot, Change on the fly, and Non-checking league
  • This player is considered a less experienced adult recreational player with some youth hockey playing experience up to the Bantam house level. The player has limited understanding of where they should be positioned on the ice. Forward and backward skating may be somewhat strong, but maneuverability and transition still needs work.
  • All players must register online
  • USA Hockey rules govern play with exception of house-rules stated above
  • No player under the age of eighteen
  • All players must register with USA Hockey
  • 1 Hour, 30 Minute game slots (Five minute warm-up, 3 – 25 minute run time periods)

Our instructional division meant for those that have decided to take up the sport. Most D Leaguers have less than five years of total hockey experience & want to work on building up their skill set. This division is unique as, in addition to game play, instruction is also given. D League is on Sunday nights & is non-checking, no slap shot.

League Details

  • Four to six team League
  • Sunday nights at Carmel Ice Skadium
  • No slap shot, 2 minute shifts, and Non-checking league
  • D League players are your typical novice hockey players (both men and women). Most of them likely began playing the game as an adult and may have limited experience.
  • All players must register online
  • Goaltenders must follow up their online registration by contacting the D League Commissioner, Courtney Spurgeon (cspurgeon13@comcast.net ) to confirm the availability of any open goaltending spots. If no spots are available, goalies can be added to the substitute-goalie list.
  • The league’s coach, Rocky Trottier, will begin each game with30 minutes of hockey and/or skating drills, focusing on the basic skills of the game (i.e. skating, shooting, passing, and positioning.) He will then referee a 60 minute game.
  • USA Hockey rules govern play with exceptions of house-rules stated above
  • No player under the age of eighteen
  • All players must register with USA Hockey
  • 1 Hour, 30 Minute game slots(Five minute warm-up, 3 – 25 minute run time periods)
